Getting Ready for Your Tox Appointment

Whether you're receiving Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin for the first time or returning for a touch-up, a little preparation goes a long way. Follow these guidelines to minimize bruising and get the best results.

1 Week Before

• Avoid blood-thinning supplements: fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen, and NSAIDs (unless prescribed by your doctor)
• Discontinue high-dose vitamin supplements that can thin the blood
• Avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours before your appointment (though 1 week is ideal for minimal bruising)

48 Hours Before

• Avoid alcohol
• Stay well hydrated
• Do not schedule any facial treatments or waxing in the treatment area

Day of Your Appointment

• Arrive with a clean face — no heavy makeup or skincare products (light moisturizer and SPF are fine)
• Do not apply numbing cream at home unless specifically directed by your provider
• Eat something before your appointment — low blood sugar can increase discomfort
• Wear comfortable clothing and avoid tight collars or headbands if having your forehead treated

What to Tell Your Provider

Inform your provider if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a neuromuscular condition (myasthenia gravis, ALS, Lambert-Eaton syndrome)
- Have had any prior complications with neuromodulators
- Have a history of facial paralysis or Bell's palsy
- Are taking any prescription blood thinners

What to Expect Day-Of

Your appointment will take approximately 20–30 minutes. Your provider will map out your injection points based on your facial movement and goals. The injections themselves are quick — most patients are surprised by how fast it goes. You may feel a tiny sting at each injection site.

You can return to most normal activities immediately following your appointment.
