What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are treatments used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. They involve the application of a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel away. The new skin that replaces it is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in color.

Why People Get Chemical Peels

  • Reduction of Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Improved Skin Texture and Tone
  • Acne Treatment
  • Sun Damage Repair
  • Enhanced Product Absorption

Only a skincare professional can determine the type of chemical peel that is most appropriate for an individual's skin type and the issues they wish to address.

Chemical Peel Checklist

Prep

Incorporate retinol into your daily skincare routine six weeks before your chemical peel appointment. Your Skin Clique provider will advise which retinol is best for you based on your skin type and current skincare routine.

Plan

Expect to peel up to seven days post-procedure. Plan to stay out of the sun and wear limited makeup as your skin heals from your chemical peel, revealing a brighter, smoother complexion.

Perfect

For optimal results, you may need to complete a series of chemical peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Maintain your daily medical-grade skincare routine between treatments, including daily sunscreen and routine exfoliation.

Preparing for Your Treatment

  • To achieve best results, treat your skin with a retinoid for 4-6 weeks prior to chemical peel application.
  • Discontinue the use of retinoid and prescription skincare products 5-7 days before your peel.
  • Avoid laser hair removal, electrolysis, and waxing 5-7 days prior to the procedure.
  • To allow for appropriate skin healing, avoid additional aesthetic procedures (e.g. IPL, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments) for at least 2 weeks prior to your chemical peel.
  • If you have received recent treatment with Accutane, please postpone scheduling your chemical peel until you have been off this medication for at least 6 months.
  • If receiving your skincare treatment at home, prepare an indoor space for your treatment. We recommend a flat surface (table or kitchen counters work great!) in an area with optimal lighting to set up. For your safety, please ensure the area is free from pets.
  • You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding to receive a chemical peel treatment.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Avoid washing your face for 5 hours after the peel (best results are achieved if you wait to wash your face until the following morning).
  • Exfoliation typically begins 2-3 days after your chemical peel was applied and may continue for up to 7-14 days.
  • Only use the provided gentle cleanser and hydrating creme provided to you by your provider while you are actively peeling.
  • Avoid peeling or picking flaking skin to prevent damage to underlying skin. You may trim with small scissors or allow skin to exfoliate on its own.
  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible while actively peeling (typically 7-14 days). Protect your skin with SPF, a hat, and avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Avoid procedures such as facials, lasers, microdermabrasion, or hair removal until skin is fully healed. You may also resume your regular skincare routine at that time.

I love my chemical peel results!

"I’ve struggled with dark spots and acne scars, and after two out of three peels in my series, my face is already brighter, more even, and clearer. Plus, I love how easy scheduling is, and that they come to me!"
