Preparing for Biostimulators: What to Do Before Your Appointment

Preparing for Biostimulators: What to Do Before Your Appointment

Complete Important Paperwork

Pre-appointment forms must be submitted online to help providers understand medical history and treatment goals. Forms should be completed at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications

"Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs)" for 7 days before treatment unless medically necessary. This reduces bruising and bleeding risks. Consult healthcare providers regarding prescribed blood thinners.

Limit Alcohol, Caffeine, and Strenuous Exercise

Avoid these substances for 24 hours before and after appointments, as they may increase bruising and swelling risks.

Avoid Certain Supplements

"Stop taking supplements like fish oil, Vitamin E, and St. John's Wort one week" before treatment due to increased bruising risk.

Stay Hydrated

Drink substantial water amounts in preceding days to optimize skin hydration and treatment results.

Prepare Your Space

Treatment areas should be clean, well-lit, with flat surfaces for equipment. No pets should be present during treatment.

Plan for Potential Swelling

Schedule appointments at least 2 weeks before important events to allow swelling or bruising to subside. Sleep with 2 pillows to help prevent swelling.

Arrive Without Makeup

Ensure faces are clean and free from makeup, moisturizer, or sunscreen on appointment day.

Avoid Dental Work

"Avoid dental procedures (including routine cleanings) for two weeks before and after" treatment to reduce infection risks.

Plan for Gradual Results

Results develop gradually over weeks or months through natural collagen stimulation. For Sculptra specifically, follow "the rule of 5's: massage your face 5 times a day, for 5 minutes at a time, for 5 days."

Be Prepared for Aftercare

Providers will give specific post-injection guidance, including avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas, or extreme heat for 24-48 hours.
