Biostimulator Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) After Treatment

Biostimulator Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) After Treatment

To ensure optimal results and minimize side effects, please follow these post-care instructions carefully.

Immediately After Treatment

  • For Sculptra recipients: "massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days (the '5-5-5 rule')."
  • Avoid makeup application on treated areas for the remainder of the day to reduce infection risk
  • Apply ice packs gently and intermittently (5-10 minutes) to reduce swelling or bruising; avoid direct pressure

For the Next 24-48 Hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs, sunbathing) to prevent swelling or bruising
  • Stay hydrated, as water supports collagen stimulation and optimal results
  • Consider using an additional pillow to minimize swelling

For the Next Week

  • Continue Sculptra massage protocol following the 5-5-5 rule as directed by provider
  • Avoid facials, facial massages, or laser treatments for at least two weeks to prevent interference with product effectiveness
  • Avoid sleeping on face during first few nights to allow even settlement

Common Reactions

  • "Mild swelling, bruising, or redness may occur in the treated areas and should resolve within a few" days—manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers or cold compresses
  • Small temporary lumps may appear but typically subside with massage

Long-Term Care

  • Results develop gradually over several weeks to months as collagen production occurs
  • Maintain healthy lifestyle with hydration and sun protection
  • Consult provider regarding clinical skincare products
  • Contact provider immediately if experiencing severe pain, discoloration, abnormal bruising patterns, or prolonged swelling
