Microneedling Pre-Appointment Instructions

Microneedling Pre-Appointment Instructions

Preparing for Your Microneedling Appointment

Getting ready for your microneedling treatment is simple, but a few precautions will help you achieve the best results and avoid complications.

1 Week Before Your Appointment

  • Discontinue use of retinoids (retinol, tretinoin, Retin-A) and exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs)
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning
  • Do not schedule any other facial treatments (chemical peels, laser, waxing) within one week

3 Days Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid blood thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, and aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor)
  • Stay hydrated and keep skin moisturized

Day of Your Appointment

  • Arrive with a clean face — no makeup, sunscreen, or heavy skincare products
  • Let your provider know about any active breakouts, cold sores, or skin concerns
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing

What to Tell Your Provider

Please inform your provider if you:
- Have active acne, rosacea, or eczema
- Have a history of cold sores (we may recommend prophylactic antiviral medication)
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have taken Accutane within the past 6 months
- Have a history of keloid scarring

Day-of Comfort Tips

Your provider will apply a topical numbing cream before your treatment to keep you comfortable. Plan for about 30–45 minutes for the numbing to take effect before the microneedling begins.
